Shooting smaller bullets with plastic sabot

They've been talked about here before so, hopefully the pros will remember :)

I can't remember the company but there is some joint that does sabot's which let you shoot .223 rounds in your .308 to get heaps more velocity out of them with that extra powder from the bigger brass.

The sabots are plastic though. How many shots do you reckon you could get out of these in a row before you're just melting plastic down your barrel?

Not really interesting in trying them, just chatting with a mate and wondering.

Plastic melting point is anywhere from (I think) about 70c to 250c for PET plastic.

I haven't used them but can only imagine they're made of a PET type material.

This was covered in the other thread but long story short the common trend from people who's used this things is crap accuracy.

One just for the velocity junkies I think.

Remington marketed sabot rounds as the "Accelerator", I saw them in 30-06 and 308 with a 55gr proj. Police in W.A. prohibit these rounds.

WA up to it's usual business.

I'm sure they can wedge shooting a plane down in their somewhere with the sabot too. The extra velocity will get you to 30,000 feet high right?

No, just like .58 cal muzzle loaders are cat b, and fired brass and projectiles must be locked in a secure container with other loading components.

I'm not sure if the lead ingots I use to cast projectiles are considered components yet but don't be surprised.

Yeah, but they're not in movies like the 50BMG. Can't talk 'em up enough as scary.
