I'm not sure measuring 1 out of 100,000 things quite counts as adopting an entire system

The good thing about standards is that there are a lot to choose from.
"Australian troops had, at Milne Bay, inflicted on the Japanese their first undoubted defeat on land. Some of us may forget that, of all the allies, it was the Australians who first broke the invincibility of the Japanese army. — Field Marsh Slim.

Listen carefully to older builders and you'll hear them using hybrid measurments metric AND imperial in the same measurement! Scary thing is I can understand them!
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

PSI, Kpa, Kg/CM, bar, ATM, inches, millimeters.

Grew up with them all and uderstand them all through neccesity, not very neat or efficient at times though.

Kahn, grab a copy of Cartidges of the World, there's a mind boggling plethora of descriptions and illistrations in there,a 6.5mm Ronezewski for instance,or
44-100 Wesson,7 x 66mm Vom Hofe Super Express,375/303 Axite, the list is intriguing to say the least.
