Still plenty of load data for this cartridge, and all 8x57JS data can be used. The only load I have in my notebook is a friends request of 250g Woodleigh, and 53g of AR2213SC which clocked 2300fps avg out of his sporterized Brno Vz24, that comes out at just over 2900 ft/lbs, pretty hard stuff.. He took it to the NT and reported good results on pigs, buffs and scrubbers. I checked load data.com and the 175g Sierra loads 53g of IMR4320 for 2700fps, 56g of IMR4831 for 2480 fps (user listed as MAX LOAD) and 52g of IMR4350 for 2300fps. You could also look at starting loads for 8mm-06 as a basis for the 8x60S Mauser, Cheers.
thanks mate , i pretty well much thought i'd use max loads for the 8x57 as a starting point , due to the extra case capacity of the 8x60 case . 8x60 is probably a lot more gun than i need for south east queensland game . hence my thoughts on rebarreling to 7x57 , 6.5x57 or the 257 bob . but as i have my trusty 7-08 tikka for such jobs , this old brno will remain as is probably . the only down side to the tikka is i'm limited to mild loads of 2209 with 150 bt's ,as the mag length doesn't allow me to seat out over factory 2.8" COL , and 2209 is a compressed load in the 7-08 . i should be able to seat 170sst's out to make good use of the 8x60 case however . 150 speer are also a useful projectile due to their construction, but it's not known for accuracy in the 8x57 .
as a side topic i found my sako 85 9.3x62 has VERY generous freebore , and i can seat right out to load over max loads with no preasure signs. i almost wish i got my 7-08 in a sako 85 for the better mag length. from the data i've looked at , i should be able to seat out as much as i need to in the 8x60 brno . the only thing that concerns me about the brno is scope to bolt clearance, and the timber stock . a lot of post WW2 euro made sporters had poor timber and they can be prone to cracking . with full power loads in the 8x60 this could make problems . i've seen a few old euro rifles for sale online with black "plugs" from stock repairs around the rear tang through the pistol grip . maybe put the original stock aside and get a hatchers .
