Scrub, reform and re-wax leaded .22 ammo?

Post by Boundry Rider » 16 Aug 2022, 8:46 am

Anyone have experience in this field?
Given the issue with Winchester .22LR ammo being manufactured in the USA and it’s obvious visual quality lapse, modifying or rectifying the USA ammo may be a consideration.
Could you use Hornady One Shot aerosol lube on .22LR subsonic ammo if you washed the USA cruddy wax off?

No doubt you'll see a measurable improvement by improving uniformity especially if you make the effort to sort them into batches of similar rim thickness.

I doubt the lube causes significant issues.

If the issue is the quality of the bullet you probably need a forming die. This swages the bullet to be a consistent diameter as well as a more consistent shape. They have been available in the past but not easy to get. It's very likely easier to make your own.

The base of the bullet plays a significant role in accuracy though, and there's not much we can do to address that with .22LR ammunition.
