imr4227 357 rifle loads

hey fellas , i stumbled across a old, unopened tin , yes tin, of imr4227 and am looking at loading 158xtp hornady's for my 357 rossi 92 . load data is all over the place for this powder . does anyone have any first hand experience with this powder :unknown: any advice would be appreciated :thumbsup:

I can only see a single load listed by Hodgdon.

thanks for that blade, i've been on the net looking for data , and depending on the source, it varies a bit . older speer data for 4227 powder is hotter than the hodgen load you just put up . and i'm finding hornady data to be really down played . i guess cause of all the 100 year old plus winnie 92's that get converted to 357 . paco kelly talks about action strength on older guns being not that good with modern preasures . i was going to work up from the mild side and watch for signs , but getting some first hand experiences from others on this forum would be advantageous :thumbsup:

IMR list a load of 16,3g of 4227 to give 1600fps in a carbine, it is listed as MAX, 35000cup and compressed load.

thanks for that . in my reading up on 4227 it's supposed to be a good accuracy powder according to some sources . i wish we had access to all the different powders they have in the USA . i'll be happy if we ever se locally made pistol powders again . :thumbsup:
