We can spotlight deer on private property and shoot them at night.

Seriously ?

Yes I have seen a 44-40 bounce right off a pigs skull and just do a surface injury .

I have seen a 30/06 bounce off a buffaloes head. Wrong angle anything can happen.

I have never seen a 416 Rigby bounce off anything's head. It has a real reputation for punching through when other things fail. I can understand slow moving pistol case projectiles not working well. YouTube is full of ricocheted bullets hitting shooters who fired them from revolvers.

Indeed but only when “controlling” them as pests and not “recreational hunting”. The regs are worth reading to avoid an inadvertent mistake.

Until you see that deer eat an apple, you must assume he’s there purely for recreation

What projectiles do you use at that range 45_70 , if I may ask

cause i live in tassie, it's been a while since i got to go and hunt some sambar...but last time i used a winchester super-x 300gr that i got off a mate who sold his 45-70. in all honesty i'm decently new to firearms (only really the last 3 or 4 years) and i still have a way to go in regards to understanding the right bullet selection etc. but i got me a dead deer, so i was happy with that.

I roll brumbies with 44mag but I dont try angles like you could with a 300mag .150m might test the range in any case. You'd want to ensure you have a decently accurate load.
Stout loads in 44 , like a 240XTP( BC of .205) at 1850fps if zeroed at 110m will be 1.75" high at 75m and drop 4.5" at 150, so the trajectory is there. Remaining bullet velocity will be 1300fps+, about the same as 44mag factory revolver at the muzzle.

300blackout, with considered bullet choice like the SST, driven as fast as possible.
At what point does lack of maintenance become patina?
