CCI Suppressor 22LR ammo

Post by sooey » 23 May 2014, 3:36 pm

I don't think this is available in Aus yet but was interested. Just sharing.

CCI Suppressor 22LR ammo.

(before anyone says, I know this is designed for use with a suppressor which no one will have, but...)

Slower velocity, heavy pills.

If accurate could make a good spotlighting round for those who do it. A bit quieter?

Easier on the ears either way. Those CCI stinger rounds have some snap when they go...

I could never get any of the CCI stuff to shoot.

I'll be sticking with RWS.

I had the same thing.

Never used to take hearing protection to the .22 range until after that.

Don't want to get stuck next to that guy again with no ear muffs.

It'll take a lot to get me away from Winchester subsonics, I have just finished cursing 5000 rounds of cheaper ammo(38 grain hollow point subsonic- not CCI) that regularly needed extra shots to finish of animals. Been back on the winnies for nearly 200 rounds and most opf my shots are one shot kills again.

You can't beat the power points(unless you own an Anschutz-they don't feed well) but I will try the new CCI's when they get here as the CCI stuff is generally pretty good. Looking closely at the projectiles they seem to be very open, just like a power point.

I tell ya, I've been so over load testing for a long time now

These days I find an ammo that does the job and stop.

Yep, to clear out the ammo cupboard a bit I took all my obselete odds and sods from testing to the range last night and spent three and a half hours trading and plinking:

Twelve different types of ammo in various quantities were traded for a brick of Winchester Subsonics, two bricks of CCI Standard and the pick of them all three bricks of SSAA Blue ribbon. The part packets and orphans were all shot off.

I have a very sore thumb from filling magazines and I have a crick in my middle back but I did have fun.

It might be different if I still shot benchrest .22 but at the range I only shoot field rifle and silhouette mostly.

I had about 150 rounds left at the end of load testing for my last two rifles.

Warrigul, couldn't be assed doing all that

$30 for bullet puller and took em all apart. Just reloaded the winning combos.

For centre fire anyway. Still have 200 - 300 dud rimfire ammo to shoot. Grrr.

For centerfire I have a press mounted puller and dis assemble loads not needed, I was only trading and getting rid of .22LR.

In .22 long rifle I am now down to Eley Standard(unfortunately my silhouette pistol loves the expensive little fockers), SK magazine, CCI standard, Winchester subs and SSAA blue ribbon.

Still too much in the ammo cupboards.

On a side note I have just got back from dropping 17 possum out of cherry trees and all but three were one shot drops. Good old winchester subs.

Some of the SK stuff has worked well for me in the past. With Rifle Match I was getting about 0.6" groups from memory.

Same as you, too much in the cupboard left over from when I was load testing for my Anschutz, when it was new.

I think I'm down to 8-9 boxes of junk now. Have been using it to introduce friends to shooting with plinking and that sort of thing

I'm a little bit late to this conversation but on the weekend I realised that my ammo was actually letting me down more than my (lack of) ability. I was firing .22LR rounds from Remington's Bucket 'o' Bullets and every now and then, the sound would be different (either a very soft 'puh' or an extra loud bang) and the round would be WAY off, like a couple of inches at 50 feet. It wasn't just me either - a friend also shooting with the same model rifle was finding the same thing. I suspect the ammo is pretty average stuff.

Today I bought several different packets of .22LR ammo to try of more expensive (well, relative to the bucket o bullets) ammo to try in my Savage Mk II .22LR. The only ammo my LGS had in stock to try was the Federal Champ Target, Federal Target Standard Velocity, and Winchester T22 so I got a packet of each to try. They normally stocked CCI but were out of stock so I'll have to try some when it comes in too. They told me just to shoot groups with each and it will become apparent to me which works best in my rifle, so we'll give it a go and see.

Should I be cleaning my rifle between each group / brand of ammo or just run them all through and see?

The right ammo makes a world of difference mate.

This is the ammo testing from my .22 here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1051

All 10-shot groups, same rifle, same day, same rests, same everything... Shot 5 groups with each ammo type too and took the photo of the best one of each ammo.

You'll see in the topic the best ammo was shot a 0.39" 10-shot group, while the worst shot a 1.41" 10-shot group.

I was shooting good, that extra 1.1" spread was all down to it being the wrong ammo for my rifle.

The coatings are different on different types of ammo, and the residue they leave in the barrel.

If you're shooting ammo A the first few shots with ammo B will shoot differently while the barrel swaps over to being 'used' to the new ammo. If you get what I mean...

You should do something to counter this this. Some guys clean after changing ammo, others just burn 5-10 shots with the new ammo to get it to what will be the normal state with the new ammo.

Shoot the clearing shots IMO.

Better to spend the time working on your technique than cleaning at the range.

Same as the guys said above, after cleaning your first few shots will be different to once the barrel is broken in with the new ammo.

One way your clearing out the wax from the old ammo, the other your building it up with the new ammo after cleaning.

Might as well save yourself the time and shoot it out. Cleaning at the range sucks

Just my humble opinion.

Ok thanks for all the tips and links guys. I really appreciate that people take the time to help out someone new.

Can't wait to get out for a shoot with them all, although this weather is looking very miserable!

If he sent it via QLD licensing you've probably got a good 6-12 months before it's due
