The 10G Shotgun

Post by MeccaOz » 15 Jun 2014, 1:24 pm

Just out of curiosity for those in the know.

Can you get 10G shotguns in Australia ? What's the price of Ammo?

I have been talking to an American mate of mine and he uses one for duck and geese, he says that he lives in an area where you can only use steel shot, and that steel shot doesn't hold velocity well so a lot of guys use them.

He did also say the with 3 1/.2 inch 12G shells you get almost the same payload but the patterns are further spread.

Anyone used one? have one? recommend one? hates them?

I don't know about other states mate but I can tell you it's illegal to duck hunt here in Victoria with a 10 gauge.

So no one uses them obviously... Here at least...

10 gauge is a pretty unfriendly shell mate.

Something like 30% more recoil than a 12 gauge. Too much for most...

They're available on a Cat A license here in VIC. You can still use them to hunt foxes and rabbits here but honestly why the hell would you for that...

High recoil for no gain, and I have no idea what ammo cost but it definitely won't be cheap as it's a rare cartridge.

why not! like anything a little bit more of something good is always better...

10g went out with the punt guns, not sporting like or some BS when it comes to duck hunting...personally I'd like to see Laurie loser's face when a bunch of hunters line up at the wetlands with some real big bores... he probably couldnt tell a 10 from a 12, only a mm or so difference in the bore, a 4 bore now.....that would be interesting.

pick the 4 bore.....

I was just at my LGS and reading the forum on my phone, thought I'd ask the guy about one for ya while I was there.

His answer was "Pwoar, you could get one by I don't know what the hell you'd want one for."

You can never quite explain the recoil of these things well enough that people are actually prepared

The 10 gauge was relegated to obscurity when they started making 3 inch and 3 1/2 inch chambered 12 gauge guns .

I have a mate that just bought a Jeffreys 10g s/s for 500.00. He is having problems finding ammo. Evidently the N.T is the only state that stock any ammo they get it from remington.
