Not legally here no. I don't believe so.

It's only deer here that we have legal requirements for calibre.

For buff we're left to choose an appropriate calibre ourselves.

Some good talk on suitable buffalo calibres by some of the guys if you were interested.

Mixed in with a bit of other info but plenty there.

Haven't had the chance yet to shoot a buff but I have knocked plenty of bulls with a .270 and .308. I know an old rigger that use to do a lot of bore running on the stations he worked on and he has shot hundreds of bulls with his .308. Might be a little small to consistently shot buffs tho.

Only real option here is the 585HE
Google it.........
Only one custom made in Australia so far, I think you should make it two.
Awesome looking complete overkill, it looks like a 12g had sex with a .50cal BMG.

Hard to get in the USA because its BRITISH! you know, those red coats.... and apparently you guys have a deep seated aversion to anything Brit...

There are many alternative, the 416 RemMag, is more do-able over there I'd guess, the proj is only slightly smaller than the Jeffo (aka 404 Rimless N.E.), and the case is slighly smaller in volume, but its higher in pressure by about 20%....

If you're going to the trouble of a big/D.G rifle, may as well go bigger though... :D

9.3x62 was what came to mind for me too. A very capable cartridge, but not excessive enough that you couldn't use it for smaller things, like deer hunting.

I'm sure many would agree the problem with buying a 'buffalo gun' is it's a pain to shoot for anything other than buffalo where you need it. A 9.3 wouldn't give you this so much. Cheaper to shoot and less recoil than .375h&h as well.

I'll cast a vote for 9.3mm.

I have been shooting the 9.3 for a few years. recoil is light for a big game rifle. I shoot it off the bench when im sighting in and it doesn't hurt too much.
I have no experience shooting buff or bulls but I would imagine a 300gn Woodleigh weldcore would give them something to think about.
I usually use ordinary 289 gn roundnose factory ammo. it works on pigs but I think it doesn't expand real well. I often thought about reloading with a better bullet but never got around to it. The way I use it now I rate a 308 with 150gn bullets as a better pig killer

I wanted to import an inert display piece about 25 years ago.
The details are a bit hazy but the $300 shell was going to cost me about $10K to import. It had to be declared inert by an armourer in the US before it could be shipped, had to be shipped to Defence here in Oz and then declared again by them to be inert before I could finally own it. They told me there were maybe two of them in all of Oz at the time as even museums couldn't justify the expense of bringing them in.

When I did a buffalo safari in N.T. the main guide had made his own chambering by necking a 375 H@H Case to 416.It made the case nearly straight.I used it on the last day for pigging and the recoil was very manageable and it still had a lot of grunt.I think it had a 400gr woodliegh solid

Lol. I have a Ruger Alaskan in .416 Ruger with a Leica 1-6 on it. It's quite exciting to shoot with 350 grainers and not too unpleasant. I have some 400gr dangerous game solids here I'm sure would prove formidable on any bovine in Australia

I am a bit obsessed with big game cartridges. When I was in England I went to a shop in Portsmouth just to look at a 460 Weatherby Magnum,Apparently its like being hit with a baseball bat and its hard to not develop a flinch
