.30-06 for me, only because I'm comfortable with the recoil, I can fit 5 rounds in the mag as opposed to 3/4 for a .300 and nearly have as much power (not that the power is required for what it's used for), it's accurate for me, ballistics while their not as impressive as magnums or .270's or .25's is damn fine for a hunting rifle that really the longest shot for me would be 400m (and really isn't that what that little dial on top of your scope is for? Hahaha) and ammo is everywhere. But a .308 or .270 would be fine for what I do to, just love the history of the 06

My second favourite is the eargesplitten loudenboomer...
its only a 22 cal....

The round... reached 4,600 fps with a 50 grain bullet and 105 grains of H570 powder. It is based on the .378 Weatherby Magnum cartridge case, necked down to .224 calibre.

6.5x55, 308, 303. Cheap and plentiful. 303 can be cast and they shoot best with cast bullets. As far as weight is concerned, come on guys.....I have an AIA 308 with a match barrel and 10round magazines that I use as my scrub gun. I carry that beast together with a backpack and water pack (Ok that's only 3litres)...are we men or mice??? OK..pass the cheese please...lol...

My favourite is always the one I'm shooting, be it my Gamo air rifle or the half inch Browning and all the calibres in between.

I have an affinity towards it as it was my first centrefire cartridge years ago.

I love it on a "mixed grill" walk/stalk around.

You might come across a fox up a gully. He's looking at you thinking, "what are you doing mate" and before he knows it, you swing up that rifle and hit him in the chest.

Next you're onto a rabbit patch down near the creek.Throw your backpack on the ground as a rest, wind the scope up and try for some head shots because you know the farmer will want them for the pot.

Then, on the walk back to the camp you're glassing the valley. A nice boar feeding on the edge of the grain field is oblivious to your presence. Stalk up to that dead tree for a rest, drop one behind his ear and he's down.

My old Sako has many a tale like that to tell.

Versatile, low recoil and those 50gr vmax hit hard.
