Interesting Blade, I mostly use Trailboss in big bores to replicate black powder charges. I can usually get over half and mostly 2/3 of the speed of the usual powder. Many of these cases use faster powders in any case, there isn't usually too much shoulder in 458 or 50 cal cases.

In .30-06 15gn of Trailboss gives me 1700fps with Berry's .311" 123gn Copper-Plated bullet in my M1903-A3.
My neighbour's Remington 700 get's 65fps less velocity out of the same rounds. He also gets 120fps less velocity out of my 180gn Interlock 2700fps loads.

If its of interest, from my experience (not much) Blade is right...

Ive only tried trailboss in 204, 22-250 & 7-08, & only chrono'd the 20 & 22 cals, & the speed max's out before the case is full...
& from a hunting perspective, the difference in performance of 20 & 22 cal ballistic tips on rabbit heads out to 120 odd yds is imeasurable from min to max published loads.

Ive never been game to try other fast powders...when i post that question up a year or 2 ago no one had any proven advice other than trailboss.

Maybe the larger bore diameter helps the burn?
In 8x57mm with a 182gn cast bullet I get 1380fps with 14gn of Trailboss and only 1430fps on 19gn. 20gn of AR2206H also gives me 1400fps, so I use that if I want to go faster.
10gn of Trailboss is just subsonic with the 182gn cast.

Is there a need to shoot a 123 grain projectile at more than 1700 fps but slower than 3000 fps which should be achievable with 2206? Just trying to understand why a pistol powder would be required.

Because it would require a lot more AR2206H than it does Trailboss (almost double), and TB gives much better case fill with reduced loads, generally giving better accuracy.

There is no need, but as I have more than a dozen powders to choose from why wouldn't I use the most efficient one? If you only use one powder and don't want to buy Trailboss then you'll have to do what you can with that powder.

I can understand using a powder that you already have but the poster on the previous page was talking about using pistol powders. Most people don't have these and need to buy them to experiment with reduced loads. If I want to shoot a 30/06 slower than 3000 fps I can buy Trailboss and get 1700 fps out of it like you do. Most guys want to do this to get a subsonic load, this is what Trailboss is good at, and it is almost foolproof.
