If You Could Have Any Calibre

Post by Baldrick314 » 04 Sep 2014, 8:24 am

What would you have if you could have a firearm chambered for any calibre regardless of price, availability or legal restriction?

I've become quite enamoured with the 6.5 Grendel cartridge and would like one in a bolt action rifle

^^ That is insane!

Well, I must be a little-man hidden inside a normal-sized body because I've always had a thing for the larger calibers. .338 Lapua and the 50 cal are still on my future list and I've just ordered a 500 nitro express for some fun now. I don't even care what other people think; it's just for the fun of shooting large bore. :D

I'd sort of like any of the serious long range calibres. Any of the DTA rifles really...

.50 BMG, .375 CheyTac, .416 Barrett, .408 CheyTac...

Except I'd hate shooting with that much recoil all the time so... I dunno now

I'm going to be boring and say my 7mm Rem does everything I need so I'll stick with that

I suppose with the 7mm when you're bored you can troll the .308 fans about how your calibre is "technically" better.

That can keep you entertained

Wouldn't mind a .45 or .50 flintlock next.

You've really gotta love it to go flintlock.

Those things are a chore to get running smoothly.

Gotta love the features though...makes everything else I own look like cap guns.

•3000 yard range
•1600 grain bullet
•3300 ft per second
•Only weighs 39 pounds
•Takes 20mm Vulcan ammo (percussion primed)

1600 grains @ 3300 fps...that's gotta hurt.

Technically I think I can import it as it's not listed as a banned item and after all it is a centre fire rifle. I have a dealer chasing up the legalities of bringing one in along with ammunition components / loaded rounds. The rifle should be easy enough but the ammo is the current problem.

This would be my second choice!
First would be a 577 Nitro Express.

No problem with the shoulder, it's been plated and screwed together after a bike accident and is stronger then ever :)

Why the Grendel?? its another solution to a problem Aussie shooters dont have. I understand the novelty thing, but its designed for the AR15,is therefore restricted in length and performance, it has the smallest case volume of any 6.5mm factory round you could chamber, bout 2/3 the vol of the Arisaka!!

Not trying to dampen your lust for it but if you're liking the 6.5mm; go hard (6.5x68) or go home :D

Me, I've got a good range of standard and mags, dont have a 50cal, so I'd be looking for something interesting and fun like a 500Nitro or even a 577Nitro in a double would be perfect....load up some BP rounds... coal rolling in the gun world

The Gendel is pretty much the only round that I've actually bought into the hype of. I first read about it about 18 months ago and was hooked straight away.

I know it's not the the ballsiest round out there but I like it. For a round to have as small a boiler room as the Grendel but still keep a 130gr projectile supersonic out to 1200 yards is impressive. Plus if it's accurate enough to pick off tennis balls at 600 yards in an AR platform I'd love to see it's accuracy from a bolt gun with full length barrel
