Has anyone used Noslers long range bullets?

Post by wayward » 10 Oct 2014, 8:06 am

I'm still just seeing dribs and drabs in comments about the Accubond Long Range.

Seems people comparing the tech specs to their current loads but not actually trying them.

They've been out for quite a while now, anyone actually used them?

They're slowing trickling into my local stores literally a box at a time.

It wouldn't seem they're very sought after seeing how little they're stocked?

Just my opinion here, but I do think the ABLR are a little out of place in the Australian scene.

(Stating the obvious here) they're a long range hunting round.

If you're one of the blokes in the US or Canada hunting in the Colorado mountains or the Rockies doing 1,000m goat hunting at that kind if thing they're probably great. That's not really done here though.

If Accubond is your round the regular bullets are more than capable for "normal" hunting distances like we'd commonly do here.

IMO.

I have used them, I like them.

They are however very hard to get and expensive. To me they make a bit more sense when they are used in cartridges like the .270 Weatherby mag as it's quite a high powered cartridge with limited bullet choices in that category.

i tried them and my rifle doesn't like them ( around 15 MOA ) but it loves the burger VLDH (.3 to .6 MOA ) and there around 40% cheaper give them a try.

if you can find them as they are VERY popular , long range hunting is a very rapid growing sport i live in east Gippsland vic and there are a lot of us .

Was that meant to be 1.5 MOA or did they seriously shoot 15 MOA?

Worst load ever!

About 6 MOA is the worst I've been able to achieve, 15 is a champion effort

I'm getting around to trying them in my 7mm Rem Mag.

I reckon (am hoping) the 175gr are going to be crackers.

Finding them is the problem as explained.

lucky your trucks still running shooting at it like that

i'm shooting the 180gr berger hybrids in my .284W and they seem pretty tunable. my best groups are around 1/4moa for 3 shots but i played with them on the weekend and couldn't do better than a 200m group 1.5" high and 1" wide in variable wind....they don't care much what the wind is doing

i've also got around 400 162gr amax here so i won't be buying any ABLR at this stage. there's a couple of custom bullet makers making target bullets for 7mm's here and in the US, would be nice to try some as i'm not hunting with my gun

Funny that

There was no wind at all when that was shot, and 162AMAX i have given up on getting them but i lucked on to 800 burger 168VLD

So i'm happy now as my 7mm like's them better than the 180g pill.

deye243,

Haven't settled on a weight yet re: twist so may need to go lighter.

I'll figured it out when I get around to it.

weepy JFYI the 168g LRAB are the same length as the 180 burger so the 175 will be longer and the 180 burger is on the edge for stability in a 1:9.25 twist...
