Hey deye,

Almost what you're asking... A shooting buddy has a 1:8 twist Tikka in .223REM and he's using the 75g A-Max. Called him up, he's getting 0.6" groups with them.

He was shooting the 52gr A-Max to start but couldn't get the accuracy he wanted out of them so went up to 75gr.

1:9 will still do 75 though I think...

Just happened to post this in another topic on the subject of twist...

From Berger website...

30-45 Grains 1:15 Twist
50-55 Grains 1:14 Twist
60-64 Grains 1:12 Twist
70-75 Grains 1:9 Twist
80 Grains 1:8 Twist

I've struggled to get consistency out of my 75 amax. I think there is a fair bit of variation from batch to batch.

That said I've achieved .4moa groups out of my 1 in 9 barrel 223.

I found them the same so I've moved to Bergers 80Grn much more consistent and more predictable :P ;) :)

Oh yeah... 0.4 MOA is terrible

Supposed it depends if you're shooting 0.4 with one group then 2.0 MOA with the next.

Then it's no good

Or in my case three groups between .4 and .6 and then can't seem to find that magical combination again and have managed only .8 or so. Very frustrating.

Just ticking off the usual suspects here...

Double check powder weights with a second scale to make sure that's working.

Necks trimmed? Could be a tension issue if using trimmed and untrimmed brass.

Going from (lets average it say) 0.5MOA to 0.8 I'd suggest one of those two is the likely culprit.

If you're still persevering with them anyway.

Cheers. I think neck trimming might be the culprit. I'll check my case lengths for consistency.

I can say I found this to be the case with mine.

For a while I was being slack and had a mix of as new and several times fired brass with very extended necks.

Once I trimmed everything to be even I found an improvement.
