So this wasn't a roaring success today!!! Poor little 85 Grn hollow point serrias were screaming outta the Swede @ just over 3300 Fps and when hitting the paper at 100 well were just blowing up on impact!!!! Grouped well better than expected but well unless I'm shooting pineapples or rabbits and foxes with Scott then I'm going back to the tried and tested 140 Grn sst's Would like to shoot a couple of rabbits and a fox with this load might be a bit to brutal though IMHO  :D

Well... Watermelon is 'think skinned' so a magnum is arguably needed for hunting it

Fruits great for target practice.

I always stick an apple on the pole for targets at Little River.

Not sure I can get away with a Pineapple or Watermelon though... I suspect someone will notice

At Little River - you can bet someone will notice :) Next year's watermelon crop will be a dead giveaway...
Seriously, even with 120gr projectiles, at higher velocity it is not uncommon for even 120gr projectiles to "vaporize" before reaching 100m. Good luck with 85gr ones!

Skip to about the 4th minute....

Or 3:55 for execution style

Might drop by the fruit shop on the way north Thursday and pick up a few watermelons to execute myself :)

I'll get one of each and do a comparison just for you Westy...haven't got any hollow points for the 50 cal so hopefully a 750Gr AMAX will do the job. If I'm close enough the muzzle blast should be enough jut on its own. Will post pics and video early next week :D

Ok Westy, work is dead at the moment so I bailed out early, loaded up and am currently sitting some 40km out of Narrabri. Managed to open my account on the way up by taking out a pussy with a Bridgestone, unfortunately I missed the second one. I'll head into town Friday to get some watermelons just for you old mate, any particular angle or range you want them executed from? Any particular 50cal you want me to use? Choices are Steyr, McMillan or DTA. Was thinking I have to try at least 1 from point blank but I'll use the DTA for that cause firing either of the others from a standing position will give me a hernia. I now have 4 full days of almost non stop big gun play time, that'll help relieve my small man issues for some months.

As promised :D

A good example of muzzle blast, you can see it wrap round the melon. From an educational point of view the best place to stand when a large rifle with a brake is being fired is directly behind the shooter.

Was a seedless melon btw.
