Reloads with punch for the .358 Winchester.

Hi Guys,
I'm new to "Enough Gun" but not to hunting (shooting). I'm looking for a punchy reload for my .358 Win using Hornady 200 grain SP. I ave had great results on Sambar with this calibre but I was sort of locked in to 200 grain Nosler partition and decided on a change. I have previously used Barnes and still do with great success but the price is becoming more prohibitive.
So if anyone has a good load to recommend I would be keen to give it a go.
Cheers and see you at the top!

Hi ST,

Load for what rifle? What shoots well in one doesn't mean it will shoot well in another.

SambarTracker,

Any load with a 200grain projectile in .358 Win will be more than enough to drop Sambar all day long. It'll will be a matter of finding the most accurate load for your rifle.

Have you done any load development before or were you previously shooting factory ammo? If you haven't there is load data available here: .358 Winchester load data.

There are a few powders to choose from for the 200gr load but 2206H is a popular one. Up to you what to try.

44gr of 2206H is the minimum load here, 48gr is the maximum. Ideally you'd do half a dozen rounds each with 44gr of powder, 44.5gr, 45gr and so on up to maximum.

Fire each group and see what's more accurate and that's your load. If you want to fine tune it after that try 0.1gr increments up and down from the best initial load.

200gr loads are a good balance of power and usability/practicality IMO.

Loosing the 300ish fps for the 250gr loads it's starting to get a bit 'rainbow'. It's not a long range calibre of course so not critical, but the 200gr hit hard enough I prefer the flatter shooting and slightly lighter recoil in this kind of cartridge.
