Berger Hybrids... What's the go?

Post by rainwalker » 19 Mar 2015, 1:37 pm

Correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is the difference between the Berger VLD and the Berger Hunting bullets is the jacket of the hunting bullet is thicker.

I didn't think there was any other difference?

If this is the case, what is the hybrid bullet a hybrid of? Must be more than a 'medium' thickness jacket if it's made of the above two.

The hybrids have a different shape which should be less sensitive to seating depth than the vld's. It's a hybrid between a secant and tangent.

Sensitive to seating depth for the VLD is right.

I tried some in my scout. Same powder charge but 2 different reloading sessions.

I was slack on getting the seating depth right so that's my fault, but 1 batch shot great, 1 shot inches :(

Needed to pay more attention.

For what it's worth, squirrelhunter, I couldn't get them to shoot worth a damn in my Ruger either.

5" groups or something I got.

That was with the usual spread of powder charges for load development and 1 seating depth tested. Never bothered to try and get a better result out of them as the initial ones were so bad.

Switched back to the Pro-Hunters and was doing 3/4" so it wasn't the rifle. Just didn't agree with the bullets.
