Eley rimfire ammo

Post by Press » 20 Mar 2015, 6:24 pm

G'day,

Anyone using Eley rimfire ammo?

Seen a few ads lately and it's one I haven't tried in the Winnie.

The Edge ammo is interesting, moly coated by the looks, don't think I've seen a rimfire ammo with that before.

So who's shooting it?

Hey mate the eley ammo is not bad at all this is a match grade ammo that has a fine wax coating very consistent although expensive as far as .22 ammo goes it is eleys equivalent to RWS R-50

I was given a box the other day to try through my Anschutz 1813. Only shooting 50m BR. I've got a tuner fitted to the barrel also.

It didn't perform any better than the SK rifle match I had been using and then to really throw my mind into a spin, CCI standard were shooting just a bees dick higher than the Eley. Then a box of Federal standard shot just as well as the SK and the Eley Match  The SK ammo smelt similar to the Eley after firing. Wonder if they are using the same brand of propellant?

I spent a few $$$ trying out about 12 different ammo types (tried Center X, RWS match also) and settled on the SK rifle or pistol, but, now, I'm totally confused as to what's happened. Might try and tune the Anschutz to shoot CCI standard or even Federal. A lot cheaper as I shoot regularly, the ammo costs are starting to sting.

The cost of .22 match ammo is starting to get as stupid as the Greens Party. Quoted $95 for a brick of SK recently. It was $70 a few weeks ago. Yeah, I know our $$ has fallen, but, WTF?

Lucky I reload for my centrefire target rifles and pistols, otherwise, I'd be going back (or spending more time) on my boat, throwing lures around (I'll jump in to retrieve a $30 Atomic bream lure).

The Edge ammo is something different, not moly.

This advanced, contemporary cartridge is instantly recognisable by its matt-black oxidised finish. Scientifically developed to microscopically increase the friction between the case and the projectile, the resulting stabilised projectile release force delivers greater internal ballistic consistency ultimately providing the shooter with more consistent projectile flight.

So there you go...

I've used their club and sport entry level ammo, both shot well.

Match and biathlon I'm sure would shoot great but a bit pricey for my shooting.

Rifle Match is a real popular one, seems to shoot good in just about every rifle.

There is one ammo I'd still like to try for my Annie which is RWS50.

Just want to see how it goes, but at the same time I don't bother because it's so expensive testing is almost pointless as I'll never buy it.

$7 for RWS Club which shoots great.

$25 a box for the RWS50. More expensive than my centrefire hand loads

I use eley sub sonic hollow points, super accurate in my marlin xt, bit on the pricey side though, this was a 50mtr target 5 shots, the spotter asked me to move my aim point after the first 3 shots, he said I was missing the target after the first shot, lol

I've tried Eley, Club, Team and Rifle Match in my Lithgow Crossover and can't tell the difference in accuracy between them. Consistently group 15-20mm at 50m.

I have a box of the Subsonic 40gr HP that i'm going to try next and i really want to give the Edge a try but i haven't found any on the shelves yet.

My rifle loves the Federal 922A (I had a few boxes of that which were labeled ultra match but the latest stock is just "Match".

Fine ammo is eley subsonic, I am using it in my 50m free pistol with good results.

The 'club' level ammo is about the sweet spot for price and performance I've found.

The various entry level competition or practice ammunition is about 1/3 of the price of the top match ammo for 9/10 the accuracy.
