I have the 30-06 in tikka hunter and 300 wsm in tikka hunter, fitted a slip on pad to each and felt recoil to me is about the same.
just a bit more than the 308s
Its just a case of use it and you will get used to it . I often wonder what it would be like to fireThe .905-caliber rifle fires rounds about 2,100 feet per second

30-06 will be a little more recoil friendly than the 300WSM and perform similarly.

There's about 6gr difference in case capacity, with 180gr projectiles you're looking at about 2,930fps muzzle velocity from the 300WSM and 2,800fps from the 30-06.

30-06 is as common as muck too where 300WSM could be a pain for cases and factory ammo.

+1 for 30-06 Springfield.

30-06 to 300wsm = +5%velocity +16%recoil

So that settles it....

300WinMag wins :D

? For Genesis93
Just out of curiosity mate,I've read that the wsm matches or slightly betters the win mag with 180g pills!
Without access to my books and iPad at the moment,What is the difference in powder burn to achieve this,If this is correct??
Thanks for the welcome back!! ( Been a bit busy )
PS: I settled on the 30-06!

I understand the wizzum was 'designed' to match and not better the Winbag.(factory win loads 2970 vs 2960)... and therefore market the new magnum to those who want the winmag level of performance with a slightly shorter action, because everyone knows than saving 1 tenth of an inch in action length is th different between.... i'll stop there.... :silent:

But a far as powder burns, in the above 180gr example the max ADI loads are
30-06/180gr/57.5gr/2798 versus 300WSM/180gr/64gr/2950

while comparing the apples, Granny smith versus Pink Lady;
300WSM/180gr/64gr/2950 hottest load, at 63k PSI...
while 300WinMag/180gr loads vary with max from 67 to 81gr, velocities 2916-3042@a leisurely 52k PSI

With the same powder (2209) the max WinMag load is stated to be 67gr at 2918 however at considerably less pressure 53k...

Try a 300 winmag pump action. When you get up close face to face with a cranky bull you wont even notice the recoil but you will really appreciate the quick follow up shots of the pumpy! That is until the NFA moves them to cat D.
It's not banned in Queensland but you just can't have one!
