PS. I think you need to change your name from Just Starting to "Speeding" at the rate you buy rifles.

I think 'welldone' was your last suggestions, LOL.

I tried once, they checked my ID and told me that I'm too young, to come back in about 30 years*

I draw the line at 'just after', hence the MH...

*I will make an exception for a Blunderbuss, but those are expensive. Also, I was already told off for using muffin tray (even though I bought one specifically for it, she didn't even believe me) for making lead ingots. Dressing like a pirate and using cutlery for projectiles (and you know I would!) would probably end in divorce.

Slowly getting there...

Image

I will need to settle on TB for the next month, until I can make it out to the other end of town and then to shoot it... Probably another month, so TB will have to do for now.

As a side note. I settled on casting unobtainable/expensive stuff and buying in bulk cheap plinking stuff. Finding casting casting large projectiles, like this monster and my 500gr 45-70 zombie slayers a bit tricky with equipment I have. Molds are freaking heavy. Flip side, left arm is getting a workout (shut up!). Bottom pour ladle would help, but I think it's more of a bandaid, than a solution. Starting to seriously consider selling my furnace and investing into bottom pour model, which would probably save hours of effort and deliver a more consistent projectile, is the only way to go. Anyhow, made 80-something projectiles for MH today, so that's good.

More on TB in MH

I've been researching and stumbled upon this thread:
http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?285012-Using-Trailboss-Powder-for-the-Martini-Henry-577-450-Bored-Rifles

Wondering if anyone has any input on this?

Cheers.

G'day juststarting,
That thread is 5 years old now, and the information in it was dubious even back then. Since that time, 1000's of rounds in a large number of calibers have been fired using TB without a single problem that was powder induced by those following instructions. TB should not be looked at as a BP direct substitute, but as a low recoil producing, clean burning substitute for reduced velocity loads. Whilst it does produce a pressure spike, it is a very short duration and if loading procedures are adhered to you will not have a problem, 70% available case capacity with bullet seated, no fillers, never compress, never reduce loads below 60% available capacity. I have loaded 20g of TB under a 405g projectile and never had an issue, but it is very unsatisfying compared to 95g of 2F! Cheers.

Thanks, No1Mk3.

Yep, will get there with BP, but may as well start, it'll be a month or so until I get my hands on it.

Just to confirm, Bertram 577/450 brass takes Large Rifle primer. Pretty sure it does, but confirmation would be good.

Correct?

Yep, I'm interested. Might see you there JS. I have seen part of the process elsewhere, but not all of it.
