25-35 or 219 zipper

Post by andym79 » 31 Oct 2015, 6:52 am

Hi guys I am getting on of my 30-30s win 94s re-barreled with a 26" Octagonal barrel. I have for a while been debating whether to get it re-barreled to 25-35 or 219 zipper.

Though a zipper doesn't really shout out Octagon barrel!

The 22cal of the zipper makes jacketed bullet affordable if I should want to.
However I think the mold selection in 25cal is much better for cast bullets.

Which would you guys go for, and please give as many reasons as possible!

Andy.. you've got more ideas than the United Nations....

the zipper would be a nice round, only about 10% or so below the 223Rem velocities, similar charges though....

But I would go bigger, rather than smaller if I wasnt keeing the 30....

Octo barrel, doesnt matter what the size of the hole is, but consider it would be heavier in the 22 size (for the same OD)

I sure have, if the pockets were deeper, the sky would be the limit. I would probably have 100 different oddball rifles and still just 1 or 2 vanilla!

I would go bigger than the 30-30, but I have a 38-55.

I am postponing my 40-65 single shot, Uberti/Berreta just ain't interest in my business! The new Winchester 1885s come in more traditional options! A Martini conversion may happen, but I will only do that if a shot out 303 comes along, I don't want to re barrel one in good condition.

Beretta not interested? they probably couldnt find a chamber print for it, 40-82win is at least a CIP approved round....got to be better than your option

you want old school, go for a winny 1895 in 405Win; teddybear swears by that combination :drinks:

Well its in the bloody catalogue! Just not a big enough market here for them to be bothered I guess. If I wanted it in 38-55 or 45-70 then maybe they would put some effort in.

I wish they still made the 1895 that is probably John Browning's finest design (and that is saying something when you consider all his great designs my personal favourite is the 92 just a slicker version of the sweet 86 as its that much smaller (the 94 is sweet but its still looks like its coming apart every time you push that lever) I am a strange gun enthusiast I just don't find modern bolt actions appealing bolt (am a fan of some old ones) nothing to me comes close to John Browning's creations.

The 1895 was in effect the grandfather of the BLR though I am sure the BLR actually wasn't designed by any Browning!

So if they make the BLR why not the 1895?

Why not the 95? because it looks like its guts is hanging out....
I'm sure Browning did a run of them only a few yrs back, it was probably a limited time production run..... if you really want one you can find a modern production version

Winchester did a few runs of them about 10 years ago too.

I thought 219 zipper was pretty well noted as a dog of a round.

Bugger all factory ammo available and not particularly accurate if you reload anyway.
