Haven't had a problem getting it, every shop ive been to in the last month has had heaps even diffrent varieties. Grabbed 500 rounds this morning, that will do me for quite some time, was thinking about getting 1000 rounds but didnt really see it as a advantage, rather a tie up of space in the safe

G'Day Fella's,

Wattle, the only .7HMR ammo I have been able to locate, is CCI with a 17grn tipped bullet.
It cost me $28.00 for 50 rounds OUCH!
Luckily, my CZ 453 seems to like it!!!

At the price for 17HMR currently sells at, I wonder why the 17 Hornet hasn't received more popularity. I would take either one, but the hornet is reloadable and can either be loaded for low or high velocity.

I grabbed the hornady 17g vmax $199 for 500 rounds my marlin seems to like the hornady stuff over everthing I have put through it. and oddly enough it is one of the cheapest rounds available.

Heckler303 I hear you on the reloading thing I haven't got there yet saving up a few more cases before I buy a press. Just got my second centre fire rifle yesterday oddly enough a 303  I think the 17hmr is just a great little rim fire round to have a plink with cheap, accurate and reasonably quiet I think that when the Aussie dollar improves we should see prices drop a little. At the end of the day both the 17hmr and a 17 hornet have a few things going for them what ever way you look at them. :drinks:

I do think that both the 17HMR and the WSM can become viable cartridges if they maintain a low price, yes our dollar losing it's worth has some play with that, but the price it costs to make the magnum rimfire ammunition is absolutely minimal (less than a single U.S penny per round). If 17HMR was selling at the same price of 22LR good quality ammo, I would definitely be getting around to picking up a Savage 93 and running those rounds in for wallabies and rabbits.

At that price I agree that the 17Hornet is an attractive option. I shoot the 17 H and love it. At current prices it only costs me 30 cents to reload. I have an aversion to throwing away brass and the little 17H is fast flat and cheap to run.

I'm not buying it for myself but I remember seeing it on shelves here and there, seemingly in quantity?

They seem to come and go, in Melbourne they usually go for $27-29 for a box of 50. Bit dear methinks.

Both gun stores I visited on the weekend had plenty not sure about price here in QLD though.

Cheapest 17 Hornet I've found here is $25.90 for box of 25 Hornady superformance 20gn
Not sure how others stores can sell it at closer to $40

Thankfully other companies will have it in their line up later this year

Winchester
Federal premium
Sellior & Bellot

Hornady will also be offering a 50pack in 25gn HP

Not everyone wants to reload though.

If you rarely shoot or are time poor (or just can't be stuffed) then will just pay the extra $ for off the shelf either way.
