A 150g bullet at 3450fps is something to behold, and after punching holes in plates at 800m, I am a believer.
Kind of my point mate, so why shoot a 150gr at 3450 when a 168 or 180 a bit slower has a heaps better BC so hits harder and with less wind drift?
Chronos
heaps better BC? which bullets are you referring to, whats heaps and whats hits harder? As far as I'm concerned BC has little to do with wind drift other than less velocity decrease/less drift
time ... and naturally whether your shooting
with the rotation of the earth.....
... ok, I just through that in for Brett
But I dont accept that the advantage of your simplistic premise is are other than minor, and limited certain elements;
Comparing Nosler 7mm bullets, lets go with the Accubond LR (seeing we are talking LR) the 150gr/175gr have a BC of 0.611/0.672 resp. Consider an almost max load velocity of 3250fps(150gr) / 3050fps(175gr):
The energy
advantage of the heavier proj is at ranges 0yds / 250yds / 500yds / 750yds / 1000yds-
approx 100ftlb / 120 / 130 / 130 / 130...
Thats about the energy of a 22rimfire at 25 to 50m
(game changer??)
While the lighter proj (that has the velocity advantage but the BC disadvantage) has 2inches, 6inches, 14inches, 25inches LESS bullet drop at 250yds, 500yds, 750yds and 1000yds respectively.....
Unless I'm mistaken...
This of course is comparing only one brand and one range of bullets..
