That's exactly what happens.
If your shot pkacment isn't perfect then using heavier jacketed projectiles will not produce a kill.
I've had cat's and foxes take off after being shot.
It's like trying to hunt with a bow and arrow using target bolts instead of broad heads.
I've even had a head shot that dropped the animal but left it there alive, straight through the frontal lobe like a .243 sized drill bit.
Personally I've got my reservations about finding a pill that's good for varmints and larger game in a .243 at or above 80 grains, again thats the reason I bought a 1 in 12 twist .223 , it will throw nice little explosive 55 grain projectiles just nicely.
The .243 can wait it's turn for goats and pigs.
