36gr vmax

Post by Barrettmr » 13 Aug 2016, 9:52 pm

This is probably a stupid question, but is it possible to shoot a 36 gr vmax from a 1 in 9 twist 223 rem? All my research says that the twist is too fast and that the projectile will probably explode in air.

Has anyone tried anything similar. It's not imperative that it can, I am only asking as I ended up with a box of them in a selection of projectiles that I purchased one time.

Any input is much appreciated.

Twist rate is a bit to fast may need to back done the velocity, but give them a go may never know.

FWIW, I know a bloke who tried light bullets in his fast-twist, 223 and they worked OK. As said by Varmtr, you would have to start with reduced loads and then, work your way up :)

At the very least try them. Worst thing that could happen is they blow up 50m out

You don't know unless you try. If they don't work, they may make a good trailboss load. Experiment with them and let us know

They will hold together fine. It's more an issue with high velocity cartridges like the 220 swift or 22-250. 223 Rem is actually a moderate velocity cartridge. By the way, where did you get 36 gr vmax cos I only ever seen them in 35 grain?

Sorry, they are 35, it was a typo.

I will try them at some stage, just a little busy now to go through the process.
Thanks everyone for your comments.

Yeah, you still need a bit of weight and half decent BC to carry the energy at distance. It's not all about MV.
