25 Sharps

Post by Tripod » 14 Aug 2016, 7:35 am

Anyone on here played with any of the smaller 25 cal cartridges? I a planning on building a 25 Sharps. which is the 223 necked up to 25 cal, Basically a modern 250 Myra or 25 copperhead which use the 222rem case,
I have everything except the donor action, (If you have a spare Ruger mkII or Hawkeye please pm me)

Should be a good little round. Basically a .25 TCU with a different shoulder angle designed to work through an AR platform. I've got a 7mmTCU that I built for my son to start off with in centrefire silhouette. It's a good round on critters also, light recoil and report. Built mine on an old Tikka 55 .222 that I've had for years.
You might want to check on twist rate to suit the lower velocities.

250-3000 (250 Savage) is another great mid sized 25!
I reckon you may be onto one of the sweetest shooting light to medium game rifles ever devised! Mild and accurate....a real 'meat in the pot' gun.
Keep us posted with the end result.
I've often dreamed of similar.
Good luck!

Everything is sorted for it except a donor rifle, Even got dies out of the US in record time. So I will have to keep scouring the firearm websites till something shows up, Then I will do a thread on the build if any one's interested.

You run the brass through a larger neck sizing die. In this case he will size the neck "up" from .22 to .25.

Same way you size down. Dies usually size both the outside and the inside of the neck.

Purely for fun many years ago I made up some dummy rounds seating 139gn FMJ 6.5x55mm bullets into .222 Remington brass, just pressed them into fired cases in a vice. Used them for key fobs :-)

Donor sorted. (For this build but still need one more for a different build) Waiting on a new 25cal S/S tube and she's all go.

What action did you opt for for 'Project A'?
I've got a Martini being chambered for 25-35.....was toying with .256 Win Mag....I still reckon this would be a great fun cal to play with and truly economical!
