Hardcast vs soft lead?

Just picking up buzzwords here

I gather there are "hard cast" lead projectiles. So there must be soft ones too?

I had thought casting your own lead bullets was just melting and pouring lead.

Where does hard and soft come into it?

Soft refers to pure lead bullets.
Hard cast refers to lead alloyed and/or heat treated bullets.

Pure lead is usually good to around 1400fps without leading the bore.
If you want more velocity or deeper penetration you alloy the lead with other metals like arsenic, tin and/or antimony.

They start to just plow through the rifling instead of being spun by it too if I'm not mistaken.
