Federal ammo, is it always this expensive?

Post by Gun-nut » 19 Nov 2016, 2:49 pm

I was looking my LGS website and their price for federal ammo is absolutely ridiculous. A box of 20 for 303 Brit costs 50 bucks! Is their actually something special about federal ammo?

What do you guys think, has anyone actually purchased some federal ammo at a decent price? .

How does it compare to what you are paying for your current ammo?

The last centrefire ammo I bought was twenty rounds of Federal 7m-08 150gn HotCor, I think it was $40 at my local.

Any excuse to raise the street prices... maybe there was a storm in Upper-Crapistan, so the prices go up..

Back when the Lead and Copper prices were going northwood (6odd yrs ago, more?) prices were raise several times..... consider over the LAST 12months the Copper and lead prices have gone up by 20 and 35% respectively, so the ammo street prices wont be going down.... even though the raw material cost is only one component of the final sell price, possible a small component.

Is that nationwide or just one dealer trying to move some stock?

There's a lgs out in the general area where I tend to hunt, I'm yet to go there but just checked out the price for 303 Brit (180 gn) on the website... $61 for a little box.

I recently bought a 7mm 08 not expecting a huge selection of cheaper ammo. I was recommend the Federal Vital shock (Noslar 139gr ballistic tip) at $52 per 20. The local didn't have any but had the Federal premium (had a fancy Barnes bullet or something)It was either $79 or $80 per 20. I shoot Hornady factory ammo now it's much cheaper!
