Depends how the target is tracked. Probably some sort of a gyroscope, laser gudeince or heat seeking sensor/circuit. Maybe a power source or some sort of a generator based on cetripical force... And then the main question is, how big is the bullet... Maybe Google laser guided bomb, I guess. All guestimate.

I don't think it's bs. Depends on the size of the projectile. It's no different to any guided weapon, what's in question is an interpretation of what we think is a bullet. Is it something that was propelled by an explosion/gas or an engine... Squeezing all that into a 50 cal - probably bs (for now). Squizzing it into something larger - perhaps doable?

Considering a bullet is rotating at circa 180,000rpm, I don't think it's plausable in projectiles as we know them. A fin stabilised sabot type round from a smooth bore however is feasible.

The vision looks like a kid put something together during his afternoon free time....the images of tech inside a conventional 50BMG or other small arm round (what it is meant to be) just look like fantasy BS, the venturi tail of the bullet looks equally BS without any suggestion of guidance....

I think darpa are pulling ideas out of there so and so for the purpose of obtaining interest and $funding$....

Alternatively, perhaps its legit...

Totally plausible and not the first time either....

IMO, not plausible, at least without any roswell alien tech... ;)

The picture is just a fantasy, in the shape of a cartridge NOT a projectile, with random techy looking stuff inside, like wheres the necessary 'mass' to maintain momentum / energy, will the delicate optics and electronics survive the initial dozens of G forces, if not more?? That stuff packed in a decent size, yes, done done and done... in a 50cal or smaller....perhaps some time, not yet. certainly not in a ballistic / small arm format.

Image

Interesting thought exercise though...

I should have made it a bit more obvious as you may not have picked up on the link to Sandia labs who have demonstrated a small arms guided bullet. https://share-ng.sandia.gov/news/resources/news_releases/bullet/#.WIB9LIVOKzk

These guys if you look through their site they have some scary arse high tech goodies. Check out "Thor"
