How slow can you go?

Post by andym79 » 07 Feb 2017, 5:57 pm

Hi guys, I don't like to ask questions like these, but as I have no empirical data and the twist calculators all seems to vary a lot from each other.
I was hoping someone here could give me some first hand experience on how slow you can go with a .308 180 grain 1" long bullet in a 1:14" twist before stability is lost?

Calculators are giving me number from 1000-1700fps!!!

1" seems very short for a 180gr pill,

Yere cast, Lyman 311041. I know my 1:10 twist can go very slow, but I would like to know how slow the 1:14" can go!

I would just try it but I can't see any reason they won't work subsonic.
I shoot 8x57mm 180gn lead 23.3mm long subsonic with no problems at all.
That's at 9.5" twist though. I don't have any centrefires with more than 10" twist.
