G'day pete1,
Cordite is a form of smokeless propellant introduced in 1889, but was preceded by Schultze Smokeless (Germany 1865), EC Powder (UK 1882) and Poudre B (France 1886). There were also a range of semi smokeless powders prior to Nitro based powders such as Winchester/DuPont Lesmok, Kings Powder and maybe earlier versions of Schultze. Smokeless is divided into single base and double base mostly, but there was also a triple base in the 1930's but mainly for artillery and a few big game cartridges. Cheers
