250 Myra long neck?

Post by andym79 » 17 Apr 2017, 7:12 am

Hi guys,
I am considering having a 250 Myra long neck built.

The Myra but with a .450 neck to take up to 120 grain cast bullets.

My logic being that the 25-20 isn't enough case for big 25 bullets and the 25-35 is too much, well at least for moderate velocities or good fill.

Both my 25-20 and 25-35 are pretty accurate, but I truly believe that an in between case could be the sweet spot for 1600fps 115 grain cast bullets.

Any opinions appreciated.

I would really like to hear from anyone who shoots cast bullets in the copperhead or similar.

I just have to ask why. You've already got two 25's capable of shooting cast bullets at low velocity, why custom build a third?

If I was playing around with an obsolete low velocity cartridge it would be for nostalgia value.

Why not a 25-08 that you can download with trail boss and cast projectiles or load up with a bit of zip for goats and fallow?

Just my opinion.

A 250 savage is a case i have thought about!

But essentially being a 25-308 and having a short neck its further away from my criteria than the 25-35. It would be a sweet case for jackets though.

The 250 Myra long neck would be from eithet 222 mag or 5.6x50

You could do a 250 Savage with a long neck just by cutting the die neck a bit deeper which is an easy job and forming cases from any 06 based case, Even using 243 cases will be 3.5mm longer than standard 250 brass. That would make an 11mm neck, How long do you want?

Oh it is mate, and its going to get more and more weird. I just got my 30-357 max (long neck back today) looks great.

Just formed 50 pieces of 357 max into 30-357 long neck not too bad, had to trim them all down by .025".
