Those Hornady FTX pills shoot o-k, and (for jacketed projectiles) weirdly they are among the cheapest at my LGS. I guess they shoot slightly flatter than classical FP pills (theoretically) but there's not much in it at all; mainly more a marketing gimmick by Hornady IMO. I suppose they might retain stability a little better than classical FP pills at 400m+ but the 30-30 isn't really fast enough (or heavy enough pills) to effectively be used as a long range plinker anyway. But at closer ranges the FTX pills are definitely no more accurate than many classic 30-30 pills; for example check out this 3-shot group I coincidentally shot only this morning (100m, iron sights):

That's pan lubed cast lead over 16gr AR2207 (equivalent to H4198):

That's pretty standard for my 336 - with just the right load it's about a 2 minute rifle; it prefers heavier pills over lighter (~170gn) I cook them for about 20c each and they kill things don't you worry about that - excellent expansion.

There's a lot of misconception about lever gun accuracy unfortunately.

Recommend it  its easier on the barrel, easier on the action (and screws) and not to mention easier on you. A mild lead load like this is the go-to load for CASL - save jacketed power loads for hunting the very biggest of critters.
