Found rounds

Post by p3seven » 28 Jul 2017, 5:59 pm

Cleaning out old mates safe, found a number of loose rounds. The ones l can't identify are.

Round nose soft point rimless with PS on top of case head and 7 8 on bottom?

303 FMJ with PS VII on top, 1949 across middle (DOM l assume) and below the usual 303 . The primer is coated blue.

Any info would be appreciated

I am also on lookout for a magazine for a Savage 65 22 Magnum (DOM 1969 - 1974). If anyone can point me to one or, can supply

Thanks
Peter.

G'day p3seven,
Compare your PS 78 to a 308 case, if they are the same, it will be one of the Korean 7.62x51 sporting ammo packaged and sold by PMC in the eighties. The 303 is Spanish, Pirotechnico Militar de Seville. Czechoslovakia also used the PS headstamp on 7.62x39 ammo, as did Korea to confuse things, but the Korean ammo usually had green sealant, Cheers.

Is the PS round 223 or 308 case head size?
If it is 223 size I can add a lot more to the story.

PS was also used by a Spanish factory around the 60's - 70's.

Stopped production after Vietnam I think.

They are all gone. The owner (inheritor) did not want them so, I pulled them, used the powder to light the fire and hit the primers with a hammer and nail. Brass and projectiles in the bin. Somebody at the range took the 1941, 303 rounds .

That was the safest way to dispose of them that I could come up with.

You can drop them off at the local constabulary too, don't forget. If that's less of a hassle.
