Sellier and Bellot ammo by Beretta

Post by brouta » 14 Dec 2013, 8:34 am

I see Beretta are giving Sellier and Bellot ammo a push in their latest advertising.

Anyone shot it here yet?

Either for competition shooting or hunting?

Says they've been making cartridges since 1825 so they must be doing something right.

I see a repeat of the Sako factory ammo - Months of advertising before having any ammo on shelf.

More than a few months now? I still haven't seen any in store...

We saw a bit down here, it sold fast and haven't seen it since. Pretty popular and they were caught out by demand apparently.

Lots of people wanting to try it at least one I'm sure.

If you are a hunter, not firing enough rounds to justify reloading, it might be worthwhile (if it provides acceptable accuracy in your rifle).

If you reload though, I would need to be seriously convinced that the latest S & B brass was worthwhile (and I see that their unprimed cases are being marketed again too).

In my club, the universal opinion was that you might get one reload, maybe two - but that was the end of it. Compare that with say Win., Rem., or even Highland brass, where 5 or 6 reloads could be expected, Lapua a few more, and Norma at least 10!

It is not the initial cost of the cases that matters - it is the average cost over the life of the case that counts?

Agreed. That would be the only reason to even try it IMO.

Even if you don't shoot heaps, a basic reloading kit isn't that much.

Gives you a good hobby in the mean time would pay for itself in a year or two.

I notice a few stores now are offering reloading services.

Got a quote from my local out of curiosity and it was just cheaper than factory ammo, but for a better round.

Just another option for people...

Brouta,

I just picked up some S&B for my 22LR. It actually looks really knocked around :?

There is scuffing and rubbing all over the brass. Some clean wax and wax with black whatever stuff on them.

Each casing has one or two ring makes from some machinery on it too.

Might shoot great still - I haven't tried yet - but it's a bit rough out of the box...
