6.5 Creedmoor vs .260 Rem summary of differences

Post by Wes » 17 Jan 2018, 10:57 am

Hi guys,

I'm researching the 6.5 Creedmoor and .260 Remington for a potential new rifle buy, I know they're extremely similar, just trying to really nail down the difference here.

I'm not talking about ammo availability, cost and those kinds of things for now. Just the practical differences between the,

As far as I can tell it really boils down to these two things.

.260 Remington - Slightly higher case capacity, so a bit more juice can be squeezed out of it with the extra powder.

6.5 Creedmoor - Designed for longer bullets in the same calibre, so if going for maximum performance you can load higher BC projectiles for the benefits this brings.

Is that a fair assessment?

In a bolt gun I would take the 260. Creedmooor I believed was mainly developed to utilise the the bc benifits of 6.5cal bullits in an ar platform.
Nothing wrong with a creed though - another nice cal to look at is the 6.5x47 Lapua very efficient mid size case with a small primer.
Cheers.

There was a comparison done many years ago by someone and it was posted on accurate shooter website. Then he did an update and said that the 260 won but since that the 6.5 Creedmoor has cases made by Lapua with the small primer. This I think puts it ahead of the others again as it has been shown in that size case that the small primers does equate to a lowed SD and ES. However we are talking very small differences here.

one positive of the 6.5 creed is you can get small primer brass, seems to give longer primer pocket life.

PPL seems to me to be the quickest thing to go on brass in my albeit short reloading career.
