6.5 Creedmoor vs .260 Rem with the same projectile

One more question for my 6.5 Creedmoor vs .260 Remington research binge :D

Once you whittle down the differences between them, the 6.5 Creedmoor seems to just edge out the .260 on maximum accuracy if that's what you're chasing. There will be some differences in this though, longer projectile or whatever in the 6.5 to give it that edge.

What if you're using the same projectile in both though. Exact same projectile, same velocity, once it leaves the barrel everything behind it no longer matters, so accuracy should be basically identical?

The difference when it comes to two identical rifles, one in each chambering, would be 5/8 of f*%k all.
To answer your other post:
When it comes to loading the longer, heavier bullets, the Creedmoor can be loaded to max C.O.L without impinging on powder space whereas in the .260Rem the bullet has to be seated deeper in the case which has the base of the bullet below the shoulder, ( which can effect accuracy ) and also takes up powder space. This applies in standard factory rifles with .308Win length actions and magazines. So any extra powder capacity that the .260 has is lost when loaded with the longer/heavier bullets.
Of coarse this is negated when loaded as single rounds or in a custom gun built on a longer action.

Hypothetically what you described is correct. Same bullet, same speed, same result.

If you want to get fussy, in a real world comparison the sweet spot for velocity can/may/would vary between 2 different chambered rifles, so there would be some variation.

But GR's right, 5/8ths of f*%k all will be the difference.

Both are excellent though. The strength of the 6.5mm projectile is it's high BC and ability to buck the wind, regardless of the cartridge.

I don't have the tables handy, but Google .260 Rem vs .308 Win and look and the different in drop and windage at 1000 yards. The 6.5mm projectiles smash it.

The 6.5mm have 30% less drop and windage or something at that distance.

The technical metric term is a 'poofteenth'

But when shooting shorter projectiles that can made use of the extra powder capacity you can get a bit more velocity from the .260
