Hopefully this hasn't been shared before.

Check out this crazy double bullet .308 - The "7.62x51mm M198 Duplex"

This is a screenshot/x-ray from the video.

They shoot out behind the other so the first penetrates and loses all it's energy creating a clear path for the second bullet.

Watch the video tests here - http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=8b9_1387869456

Crazy.

Cool.

Would this work through a regular hunting rifle barrel or is it for a special firearm only?

Did a quick good for 'Project SALVO' like it labels the cartridge in the video. Seems this is part of a whole bunch of experimental weapons stuff, not just 1 round.

A bit on Project SALVO here on wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Pu ... ject_SALVO

Interesting.

Kind of like "Metal Storm" ammo for regular firearms I guess?

This is a DUPLEX round, they were developed for other calibres many years ago [last century] for machine guns to get as much lead in the air as possible in a given time, not very accurate, just mass fire power.

Last century made some for 45/70 using RB to see how they performed.

So it would work in a standard barrel then?

Looking at it I figured you might get some funny pressure issues?

I would not attempt to make duplex loads for a necked case, but I have done for a 45/70,no risk of the second proj canting and jambing in the neck

Be safe BB

As long as nothing slows down that first bullet I suppose it's ok.

You wouldn't want to have left a blob of grease or anything in the barrel though :(

Full-auto barrels last so I guess it's ok?

Up to a point.

Full auto barrels will be designed with their high rate of fire in mind though.

That's academic though, how fast can you really fire a bolt action after all. Not 600 rounds per minute I think :P
See you on the firing line.
