No. I wouldn't use a 45-70 either as my Johnson's in a workable and healthy status.

Yeah Bigrich it was a fair while back it was only a discussion about how we have to be aware of what was posted in as far as pictures
not sure which one it was but can remember some of the content
I think I brought it up in the post half way through the post of something else
We do have to be aware that people are watching and watch what we do and say on here but gee it is a shooting and hunting forum
We don't do anything different to what other forums do around the world death and gore is part of hunting as is an ethical kill
they go hand in hand and I do believe the majority of all practical thinking people know that and accept that

i respect your right to your opinion heckler mate. i could comment further on the johnson remark, but won't as i can see this as degrading the forum. i don't carry my rifle collection around like a bag of golf clubs mate, and select the right one for the situation at the time. but i would not take a shot at a large pig or deer with something like my 22 hornet ( gee i hope you don't refer my johnson to this ! couldn't resist ) that would be silly. now i think you should go have that beer now heckler

Looks to me like half the pig's internals are seriously missing. If that isn't a gut shot I'm not sure what terminology everyone else uses.

sorry i didn't reply sooner GDB and stix, i type with one finger your right about the image guys, and who can view. my difference of opinion with heckler is appropriate caliber. better to be overgunned than under. and stix, if you haven't seen it already , i commented on your mortar rifle on the annealing page and how you can solve two problems at one time

A gut shot is a strike to the guts.
As the OP states, this shot entered t he chest from front on, the rest is down to terminal basllistics.

where i get to hunt, there are deer (supposedly, seen lots of rubs but ), pigs and goat. so i pack 156 gr norma ammo in my 6.5x55. any goat i've hit in the chest has not suffered and was anchored on the spot. i don't consider this "too much gun"

That can happen mate...i remember nearly 30 yrs ago shooting a bunny with a new second hand scope on a 22lr for a whole night of spotlighting--little did i know the scope was faulty & would shift zero every time it hit the handbrake...
I scoped it in at 25 with 5 shots in the same hole...15 mins later the first bunny appeared at about the same range--squeezed a shot off at its brain & the poor bunny ran around in circles for 5 seconds with all its innards hanging out its back leg...the hollow point went in its chest just inside its left shoulder & exited just before its right hind leg & the effects of pressure from the hollow point forced everything else in its cavity out as well...that one took 2 bullets cos let me tell ya i wasnt picking that one up to wring its neck...!!!
(I removed the scope after that & did the iron sights thing all night).
