It's a very specialised skill, Stoney. Don't feel bad if you don't get any serious responses.

Thanks for your helpful response Gwion. I think I have watched every checkering video around. It's sometimes helpful to ask silly questions of those in the know. But yeah, I don't meet to many people that are into it. Might pester some Yanks.

Very few blokes around who can do it let alone do it well. Ive had a go at an old stock with a triangle file bent and cut just to clean out old varnish and sharpen it up one line at a time. Lot of work that's for sure.

Finding the correct checkering tools can be tricky here in Oz and they're not cheap hence why I made do with a file

I'm hearing you Chronos. I have spent several hundreds on gear from the US and now find I want/need more ;) , only because I have had an interest in checkering for years. Very time consuming and tedious, especially because I am a perfectionist but I love it. Seeing the transformation. Absolute amateur at this stage but I would love to chew the ears off a master just to learn.

Speak to Gabe Gatti, I have one of his stocks on a M70 Win.and the checkering is unbelievable, not sure if he did it or someone else
