Rifle stocks

Post by headspace » 22 Jan 2014, 3:53 pm

I reckon one of the most contentious things today is the subject of rifle stocks. Now, I'm getting a couple of rifles, both Howa's and both have Hogue overmoulded stocks on them. Some shooters swear by the Hogues, some say you should change it for a Bell and Carson or similar. My personal preference is to leave the Hogue stock on and see how it goes. If it doesn't do what I want then change it. I'm beginning to think that there's far too much choice around today, whereas once it was wood or nothing. I still like a nice wood stock though.

I like the weatherby stocks, they have a nice cheek piece, really thin pistol grip and nice flat forend in the classic weatherby shape. I don't much like the houge, it's too bulky and flexy.

Aren't Bell & Carlson stocks like $700 or something?

How much better than Hogue can they be...

A couple of mates and I all shoot Howa's.

I used the Hogue overmoulded stocks all the time and think they're perfectly fine.

I like the Hogues too.

Replacing it with a Boyds is fair enough if that's your preference, as they don't cost a fortune. Personally I wouldn't spend the money on a B&C to replace it though.

Nothing wrong with it to start with.
