What are these tools?

Post by Rod_outbak » 11 Dec 2018, 12:12 pm

Folks,

In amongst a selection of reamers in the old gunroom, I came upon a tin box with these 'tools' in them.

Could someone tell me what they are used for?
I'm assuming something to do with machining?
I know grampa was pretty mad-keen on his newly re-built lathe just before he died, but I have no idea what they are.

Cheers,

Rod.

The first 4 are small hole gauges, used with a micrometer.
The last 3 are high speed steel , the first one is ground to use as a cutting tool for use in a lathe, the last 2 are blanks that have not been ground ( sharpened).

That's actually the most frequently asked question from people after their first time watching Parliament Question Time.

Lay odds that small turning tool is actually HCS rather than HSS, as for the HSS, don't often see T1 these days, mostly see M2. Still good stuff, but I would think they have been in old tin for a while now. Those bore gauges would be very useful for checking muzzle wear in rifles and handguns depending on their size range, Cheers.
