Source of screws for Ruger Scout

Afternoon all

Does anyone know of anywhere in Aus that I would be able to source some 6-40 countersunk hex head machine screws in black in lengths of 1/2 and 3/8 inch, or longer and then trim to size.

I bought a second hand XS sight rail without screws and I'm finding it quite hard to locate any. Local fastener shops and gunsmith have no exact match. Seeing if anyone knows anyone in Aus before I comit to overseas options.

The rifle is a ruger scout 308.

Thank you.

Try Brownells, I've bought packs of various US firearm screws from them, especially 6-40 and 6-48.
Or you could ask your dealer, most shops have a box of spare parts like screws.

Cheers for the input, my search has lead me to the ebay ones and cut them down myself.

Than you.

6-40 unf seems an unusual scope mounting fastener for a US made rifle.
Commonly they are generally 6-48 unef or occasionally 8-40 unef.
I am not familiar with your ruger model so can easily be wrong.
If you try to screw in a 6-40 screw into a 6-48 threaded hole it will start but then progressively more force will be required if the screw doesn't break.
If you mange to screw it in all the way you will have butchered the thread on either the screw or receiver or on both. The worst that can happen will be a seized screw that does not apply sufficient clamping pressure to the rail and is likely to break when you try to remove it.

"The screws you need are (4) #6-40 screws that are 3/8ths of an inch long and (1) #6-40 that is ½ inch long"

That's direct from an email from XS sights, think Ruger just decided to be difficult.

Even so I would suggest that you at least try the screws in their respective holes using fingers only before trying to fit the rail.
Wouldn't be the first time a sales person got things wrong.
