Swapping 22 action between bench and sporter stock

Post by hoogle » 17 Feb 2014, 2:30 pm

G'day,

I'm looking at getting a new rifle in 22LR mostly for the range so looking at a BR stock.

I'd still like to take it out in the field at times but obviously that will be a pain in the ass with the heavier stock which won't have any sling mounts.

Probably 80/20, anyway...

As I can't justify buying two 22's, how about by one in a bench configuration, and buy a sporter stock to suit it separately.

Only a fraction of the cost of a second rifle and should just be a matter of 2-3 actions screws to remove and reseat the action when I want to change.

Thoughts? Any problems with this I'm not thinking about?

It should be Ok.

It doesn't sound like you'd be doing it frequently enough to cause premature wear on the action screws.

A torque wrench/screwdriver to make you're your not over doing it with the constant changes would be good.

I'd say the only risk is threading your screws from any over tightening on the back and forth.

Torque wrench should solve that though like Seconds said.

Be kind to the screws and action and it should be ok.

Nice idea swapping between sporter and bench stocks.

I've got my eye on an Anschutz BR rifle after seeing some good posts on it here. Would love one in a sporter too but same as you, can't justify buying two 22's. ANd they're not cheap these ones :(

Plus the missus would kill me

I reckon I can sneak a second stock past her though ;)
