Torque screwdriver for gunsmithing

Post by fawksel » 04 Mar 2014, 9:21 am

G'day,

Anyone know of a specific set for a torque screwdriver for gunsmithing?

One that comes with all the right firearm specific sized bits like allen keys, flat heads, hex for scope rings... All the 'standard' stuff you need for taking apart rifles, scopes mounts and their standard bits?

Such a kit around? Or a trip to Bunnings and buy 'em all individually is the way?

Thanks.

My bunnings didn't have one. There are plenty of torque wrenches in foot pounds, not inch pounds which is what you need. I ended up getting a F.A.T. Wrench online instead and works as advertised.

I'm also using a Wheeler F.A.T. wrench and a Kingchrome bit set which works well, used it many times so money well spent.

Good tools aren't really expensive in the long run.

If you're replacing cheaper stuff every few years that's expensive.

A quality tool lasts a lifetime.
What is this "too many rifles" you speak of?

I have the F.A.T wrench too , but I also bought the 89 piece gunsmithing kit to get the extra bits . I got the F.A.T wrench for $99 the other set was about $130 .
As a tradesman i will tell you there are no such things as cheap tools . $99 is nothing for a torque wrench , I have spent more on a shifting spanner .

I've gotta get down and take a look at some proper tools. I have a few ok ones, but for the most part I've been getting by on the 'for sale' tools you get at your corner cheap auto store and stuff like that

That stuff's not made to last... :(

Yep. As said good tools last a lifetime.

And good people take care of them too. If you can buy a cared for set second hand they're half the price and just as good as something off the shelf.
