Put in about 20 minutes draw going the barrel and another 20 sanding. This is the really bad spot and needs more sanding but much improved. More Sanding for the young assistant.

Also made a start on a leather sling using leather from a previous project. I'll let the grandson complete that.

Update. Stock is very close to complete. Brushed some linseed oil into the checkering today after giving the stock some oil and a light sand with 400 wet and dry. I think that's 5 coats now. Another dose of oil for the checkering and some stock wax and done.

Also fitted the DIY sling today.

Next stage is the barrel. I have already filed and sanded out 95% of the rust. I have decided to give the pot belly stove paint a crack. Heaps easier than bluing.

Thanks to brinny I now have an original 5 shot mag. Thanks

How good does that stock look now.
When using the pot belly black, are you going to heat it to bake it on?
Ive done car parts in the past, and had to heat cycle them a couple of times for the best result

Have probably put about 8 or 9 hours into the stock. A bit extra cleaning parts and removing rust from the barrel.

No worries. I went down this route myself, when I was thinking about trying to do some Cerakoting myself. I figured the BBQ would do the trick, but ended up paying for it to be done instead.

Well in the end it's got 5 coats of pot belly black which is a close match to the action and I'm very pleased with the finish. An old zenison 4 x 40 scope is mounted and bore sighted.

Will have to wait a few weeks to test fire and sight in.

Young Evan will be stoked.

Immaculate OB - well done! Looks like new at least in the snap. Now what?

No offence was taken. It was never intended to be a beauty contest.
Lol. My original thought was to say it matched the leather.
It was simply cheap at Bunnings. Didnt have Brown or black. It was next best. Very simple design that works.
