Stock bedding

Post by NukeBOMB88 » 08 Apr 2014, 9:20 pm

Hey guys,

I am thinking of getting a new Boyds Featherweight stock for my Ruger M77 .204 to replace the heavy benchrest stock that I bought it with.

Is the Boyds Featherweight as good as I've heard? Also, I was wondering if it is worth bedding the stock if I'm just shooting foxes. I'm not looking for 1/2 MOA accuracy or anything, just trying to hit some vermin. :D

Cheers,

Have you shot it at all yet with the existing stock just to get an idea of accuracy?

As it's just for hunting I'd definitely shoot it first and see how it goes before you go to the effort of bedding it.

Might be no need at all and save yourself the trouble.

Both my Ruger's shot under 1" groups out of the box.

More than enough for foxes... I only bedded my .308 due to a torque wrench malfunction which resulting in crushing my stock.

Bedded it to fix it, not because it needed it for accuracy.

They're a pretty good fit out of the box by all accounts.

I reckon you'll be right.

Can't be worse than lugging it around with a benchrest stock on it, right ;)

Shooting it first.

Could save you spending $250 on bedding it for no reason.
See you on the firing line.

Couldn't say that it's going to better than a benchrest stock... But they are good.

As long as the rifle shoots true the stock won't give you problems.

More for the wait saving than accuracy specifically, they're good stocks though.

Thanks guys,

The gun shoots very accurately as it is. I was just hoping for a weight reduction so that I can carry it easier when whistling for foxes.

Sounds worth trying to me.

I know some guys don't mind it but I can't stand lugging around a heavy barrel/stock rifle out and about.
