Removing scuff marks from a nickel coated barrel?

Post by jwai86 » 29 Jan 2022, 1:22 pm

I recently enquired about a CZ 452 Style being advertised on Oz Gun Sales by a dealer in Victoria.

The dealer disclosed that there is a scuff mark on the barrel that they think came from a mount used to attach a light. They didn't think it could be polished out without then polishing the rest of the barrel to match the shine caused from polishing the mark out.

Does anyone know if there's some other way to remove such a mark without altering the finish?

I don't think that can be "polished" out. More like grit blasting of some sort.

If its gone through the coating you cant polish it out. It would need to be replated.

the only thing I can think might be worth trying is to apply some 100% Isopropyl with a cotton bud and see if it softens and comes away

Every scratch, ding, dent, scuff, crack, mark etc on my non collectable guns tells a story. That crack in the stock is when I fell over getting chased by that pig etc.

I'm keeping an eye on several other CZ rifles, so this one isn't the only choice.

Yeh, but I doubt it would be plated over bluing.
Black so could be paint, plastic, rubber perhaps from a torch bracket?

Try turps, petrol, Xylene, toluene, mineral spirits.

Failing that, try "silver" paint
