You're not exactly ripping off their design commercially.

I'm sure they'll survive one person taking some inspiration for a personal project ;)

Progress slowly being made.

Laminated three lots of ply together to get the required thickness and did a little more shaping. I will get the sanding disk on the angle grinder once I have inlet the stock and really take to it to get the shaper right.

As I am planning to shape away a large portion of the but area of the stock, I glued in some aluminium flat bar in a cut out in the centre section of ply. Unfortunately in my enthusiasm I didn't take any photos...

Once the shape is finished and since the stock will be painted (in the daughters favorite shade of pink) I will go over the timber with a body filler and sand it back to a finish suitable for painting.

I suggested it and she thought it was a great idea.

She also wants me to develop a range of ammo that "shoots sparkles" out of the barrel - the love heart will do for now I think.

One for the girls, a mates wife used to load pink confetti into random shotshells in his bag(with the shot as well) looked good.

That was also how they found out who was knocking club ammo off.

Just a quick update. Got to do some more work on the weekend (too wet and windy to be out shooting). I marked up the stock and completed the rough inletting utilising hand drill, router and dremel. Items of note:
1. Masking tape used on top of stock for marking out as it made it easier for me to see the lines - huge improvement over my past attempt
2. I would kill for a drill press - makes getting the holes for the action pillar and magazine and trigger relief much more accurate

The first photo is the marked up stock and the second is after the rough inletting. Once I am happy with the inletting I will use a flap disk for shaping and then I will be into the plastic filler to provide a nice surface for painting. More photos and info to follow when I am at that stage

Quick update. Finished shaping the stock this weekend - coming along nicely.

As I am going to paint the stock, I will be puttying up the holes and voids in the ply but if you were after a timber finish (or using it on something other than a 22), it would be best to go for a higher quality ply to start with so there is less change of voids within the plys and the higher quality ply would be easier to get a good smooth sanded finish on (I spoke to my mate who makes surfboards and he said the marine ply is ideal for the board fins so is probably a good starting point for a quality stock). Anyway - latest picture follows

Pillar bedded it last night and will do some final shaping and putty in advance of sanding and sealing before the paint. I am making a base plate and trigger guard out of Aluminium and will paint these to match the rifle. Probably 2 weeks work left in it - all going well.

I will post further photos as it progresses towards the end of the build.

Total cost to date:
Ply wood - $0 - left over from home project
Wood glue - $5
Bedding pillar - $12 - half of a kit from Atlas works I used on another project
Paint and putty - $18 - Super cheap auto have spray on auto body putty suitable for use on wood
Therapy and daughter "warm fuzzy" - priceless!

Following is a photo of the pillar bedding including the resin bedding of the hold down screw for the lithgow.
Aluminium pillar was from Atlas works in Perth and the bedding compound is Devcon steel epoxy.

The barrel / action was coated with neutral nugget shoe polish to stop the epoxy sticking to the barrel. PVC tape and plasticine was used to dam up the epoxy in certain areas. The overflow was trimmed using a dremel tool.

Next on the list is to make the bottom metal (trigger guard and magazine surround) and then putty the stock in preparation for sanding. For the bottom metal I am using aluminium extrusions and for the puttying, I will be using spray on automotive putty. This will make it easier to get the final shape and produce a smooth surface on the cheap plywood base.

Spray putty sealed and bogged ready for final sanding before painting.

Making the bottom metal from aluminium and trigger guard will be integrated into the stock.
Photos following are:
