Converting a 30-30 to a 25-35?

How much work is involved in converting a 1894 30-30 to a 25-35?

What paper work is involved?

Paperwork you just need to update your firearm cert to to correct calibre.

Dealer can send it off for you when they do the work.

Not a big deal.

You'll need to rebarrel to go from 30-30 to 25-35.

That's an expense of course, and I expect will hurt your resale value too.

You might be better off selling the 30-30 and buying one in 25-35 instead of that's what you want.

Cheaper and easier I think.

I believe the barrel is all that's needed for that conversion.

Same family of cases, rim dimensions and length are the same.

Not sure about updating SA paperwork. Wouldn't be any more than sending off an update PTA I guess.

Your time/expense is one thing that's been mentioned. Agree it might be easier to sell and buy a new one.

Yep, 30WCF win is the 25-35's parent case.

It won't be cheap.

I expect a barrel and the work might be $600 or $700.

Why are you looking to convert? Your current barrel shot out? Or just doing it for fun?

Might be worth looking at projectile choice before you pull the trigger on this too.

Not sure how how much choice there is in .25 cal flat points for tube magazines?

There's always the LEVERevolution rubber point bullets for the tube mags...

I believe the black powder 38-55 first used that case type with 12.85mm rim, then came the dirty-dirty & 303 Savage and a bunch of others, 32-40, 7-30, 375 (most recent)...

The 25-35 is based on the same case by all references, but the rim is larger by exactly 0.5mm (same size as 9.3x74 intrestingly)

For info the 32WinSpec. uses a similar case again but with slight difference chamfer on the rim while the 219Zipper and 22 Sav use the same case with zero rim chamfer...

What is your motivation for going the 25?? surely you could pick up an old lever in the chambering for a lot less than the 30-30 conversion??

Hmm, you sure about that?

The info I have says both have same rim diameter .506", same rim thickness .063" ?

Happy to be corrected if wrong.

Hmm ok.

Some contradicting info there then.

Gunsmith can confirm when giving Andy info for the conversion I guess.
